About Us

Tatvamazi is inspired by the Sanskrit expressions Tat Tvam Asi—“Thou art That”—& Aham Brahmasmi—“I am Brahman.” These declarations express life’s interconnectedness, inspiring our exploration of the relationship between people, plants and nature.

We draw on Ayurveda’s observation of plants and their relationship with human physiology. Rasa (taste), guna (qualities), virya (potency) and vipaka (post-digestive effect) describe botanical properties and their traditional relationship with doshas, principles associated with physiological balance. This knowledge informs how we understand and select the natural materials and traditional products in our collection.

Biology reveals how genes are expressed, molecules interact and cells respond to signals. Plant-derived compounds influence pathways involved in the body’s processes. Tatvamazi brings traditional knowledge together with phytochemistry, pharmacognosy and human evidence, recognising that cellular activity alone does not establish clinical effectiveness.

Many traditions and materials in our offerings have been carried through generations—some for thousands of years, and, in certain cases, tens of thousands. We honour this inheritance with care, respect and awareness of the people and cultures who preserved it.

Our sense of connection extends to how we live together. Jesus, the Prophet Muhammad, Krishna, Adi Shankaracharya and Kabir each spoke from a distinct spiritual tradition. Their teachings invite reflection on compassion, humility, devotion and responsibility. Tatvamazi honours their individual voices and welcomes all who seek to care for one another and our shared world.

As human consciousness evolves, connection with nature can deepen our awareness of life’s unity and our place within it. This spirit guides Tatvamazi in bringing together botanical knowledge, traditional materials, natural substances and culturally significant objects to nurture a thoughtful connection between people and nature.
